Why Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)?

MHFA began in Australia and is now being used in over 23 countries. It was introduced to England by the National Institute of Mental Health in England (NIMHE) in 2007.

Course Outline

  • What is mental health?
  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Suicide and Psychosis
  • Self harm and Eating Disorders

In each section you’ll think about how to:
  • Spot the early signs of a mental health problem in others
  • Gain confidence helping a someone experiencing a problem
  • Provide help on a first aid basis
  • Help protect someone who might be at risk of harm
  • Help prevent a mental health issue from getting worse
  • Help someone recover faster
  • Guide someone towards the right support
  • Reduce the stigma of mental health problems
