The aim of the School Improvement Service is to provide schools with a high quality service to support their continued improvement
Building Control Consultancy
As the client, schools have a legal responsibility to ensure that all building and alteration works comply with the Building Regulations. WBC Building Control can help schools quickly establish whether their proposals will require Building Control approval, along with providing support and guidance throughout this process. With early involvement at pre- planning and pre-application stage our expertise and experience will reduce both the cost and compliance risk from the design process.
If approval is necessary, it is a statutory requirement to submit a Building Regulation application prior to work commencing. Failure to comply with the Building Regulations, may result in enforcement action being taken, and the need for work to be removed and replaced at additional cost if this not the case. It may also result in legal action being taken by the authority against the owner for failure to comply with the Building Regulations
Under their funding agreement with the Department for Education (DfE), academies are required to have in place arrangements for the hearing of appeals of pupils who have been excluded from the school. As for Local Education Authorities, these should operate in accordance with the Education (Pupil Exclusions and Appeals) (Maintained Schools) (England) Regulations 2002 (the Regulations). West Berkshire Council is able to offer a School Exclusion Appeals service for independent schools, operated in line with the Regulations. It defines the objectives of the service, articulates the cost per appeal and provides a description of the activities associated with its provision. It is provided by and is managed by the Policy and Communication Service of West Berkshire Council
