Under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (‘SSFA 1998’), schools refusing admissionto pupils are required to have in place an independent appeals mechanism, operated in line with the School Admission Appeal Code (‘the Code’). West Berkshire Council is able to offer a School Admission Appeals service for independent schools, operated in line with the Code. It defines the objectives of the service, articulates the cost per appeal and provides a description of the activities associated with its provision. It is provided by and is managed by the Policy and Communication Service of West Berkshire Council
Health and Safety
West Berkshire Council has a professional and dedicated Schools Health and Safety Team who provide support and advice to schools on all aspects of health and safety including policy development and effective implementation, user friendly guidance and information, support in completing risk assessments, a complete range of health and safety training, a regularly updated website, SLA online, safety alerts and health and safety newsletters.
